Easy to digest best practices and landscape summary book

If you are not sure where to begin with APIs, or you are having trouble putting all the pieces together in planning an API specification, then this book will help you a lot. It also acts as a launchpad, directing you out to various tools and services on the internet that can assist you in creating and managing an API specification. The main tool used here is the RAML (RESTful API Modeling Language) specification.

The subject matter is delivered fluidly, making this book an easy read. There are many instances where topics are repeated in different verbiage, but for the most part I felt this was helpful to solidify the knowledge.

What the book is lacking in is granular details, or other various "gotchas" when it comes to writing and maintaining actual code projects. While it does give solid advice and best practices, these were not enough for me to feel comfortable jumping directly into writing a RAML representation for my own API. There simply wasn't enough "code walkthrough" for me to get started directly from this book.

Overall, this is a good place to start. It is a best practices and landscape summary book. It will get you thinking in the right direction.

Book is good, but Kindle doesn't bring all to me.

Hey, I am not complaining the content, but I the kindle version is mediocre. It seems like a pdf version instead of epub. The resolution of the figure is low and blur. I would not recommend Kindle version until they get the book full converted.

If you are a Christian your heart will be blessed by this book! The author will enlighten you as to the spiritual awareness that is already in you. He speaks of revelation knowledge that which we were created to receive from God on a spiritual level. Also, what it means to have spiritual eyes and ears. And how our righteousness being the right to stand in and live in the presence of God plays a part in hearing from God. A textbook you can actually read

As compared to other textbooks in nephrology, I think the explanations in this book are expressed more clearly and concisely. It has adequate basic science which does not bog you down but actually enhances the learning process. I also like the excellent pictures, diagrams and tables which are better appreciated in the hardbound book and makes it a better option than the Kindle edition.

A nice book, with good production values at its core. But in places skimpy. It all depends if you want a thorough and deep understanding, or a quick nicely produced summary. It has the virtue of being up to date, but I would prefer the 4th Edition of the Oxford Textbook of Clinical Nephrology for those extra details, insights and breadth of coverage. Horses for courses. A nice trot around the paddock with CCN, but a real Grand National, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, or Kentucky Derby with OUP's OTCN. Available from December 2015 in USA.

There are poems that are incredibly comforting and others that are so painful. Trista has the rare talent of writing poems that are both good and true. In terms of literary art, this chapbook is brilliant. Trista weaves together religious overtones with raw sensuality and heartache. She's so purposeful with the imagery, connecting and breaking motifs from each section of the book: how peaches become cherries, how salt is everywhere, the shape of same-different mouths. There is this lovely irony in these poems, how sometimes the speaker of these poems is the one who is described like a dog: sloppy, rabid, hungry, whining. Maybe that's not an irony at all. I love reading, but I had to force myself to finish this book. The "poetry" just seemed naive, not well thought out, and I felt like I was reading something a high schooler wrote in 20 minutes. I cringed throughout reading it. I never write reviews, but this book was just so subpar that I had to.

An uncommonly perceptive critique

Jay Prosser's book (in addition to being uniquely insightful) occupies a unique place in the growing (trans)gender studies canon: it is the only one that engages seriously with the specificity of transsexual (as distinct from transgender) identification, and critically examines the points of critical divergence between the two (or the several, if you prefer). His readings of the Well of Loneliness and Stone Butch Blues, as well as the appended consideration of transsexual photographic self-portrait (which is as moving as it is insightful) are, quite simply, not to be missed. A must.

The Body Narratives of Transsexuality

Jay Prosser was born a female but as an adult lives as a man.
The books discussed here were mostly written by radical feminists.
Besides advocating the same opportunities for women as granted to men,
Prosser also advocates the freedom to change sex
—or to present oneself as an intermediate sex between female and male.
Thus, this book grew out of a personal and passionate involvement
with the cause of sex-and-gender liberation.

The background research for Second Skins was a reading of some 50
autobiographies of people who have changed from one sex to the other
—and some important works of transsexual fiction.
Jay Prosser is aware of the pressure to fabricate
a standard transsexual story
in order to convince the sex-change psychologists and surgeons.
And later these stories are elaborated into full-blown autobiographies,
but still with the purpose of justifying a sex-change.
Narratives are very important to transsexuals,
first because they must 'remember'
always wanting to be the other sex from childhood.

Prosser avoids exploring the psychological reasons
for wanting to change sex.
And any discussion of the subjects' sexual orientations,
sexual responses, & sexual relationship is mostly absent.
Such an exploration might have revealed that most of the butch lesbians
discussed in this book were trying to understand
why they have sexual fantasies of themselves as male.
Early imprinting of sex-scripts might have been a better explanation
in many cases than 'transsexuality'.
A major gap in the research behind this book is modern scientific sexology.
The author does give an account of old-fashioned explanations and some Freud.

Prosser traces the changing models
of these variations of sex and gender:
In the early 1900s, these people were called "inverts"
—meaning that they had "contrary sexual desires";
then they were "homosexuals";
finally some prefer to think of themselves as "transsexuals"
—and even later as "transgender persons".

In the early days of 'transsexuality'—beginning in the middle 1900s—
most transsexuals wanted to become completely the other sex.
When this book was written—at the end of the 1990s—
a new self-concept was emerging:
"Transgender" people want to make
what used to be a transition into an identity.
These persons do not want to fade into the general population.
They want to be known publicly as "transgender"
—somewhere between the two sexes,
perhaps with the freedom to shift back and forth at will.
For a while they called themselves "preoperative transsexuals"
or "nonoperative transsexuals".
And they greatly outnumber the people
who have undergone sex-change surgery.

Transsexual writers might not be the best people to consult
when trying to create a better model for these phenomena.
They might be too passionately involved in justifying their own choices.
But at least such autobiographies
provides lots of raw material for later scientific analysis.

All in all, Second Skins is an important contribution
to the fast-growing literature of transsexualism and transgenderism.

This is a Laugh-Out-Loud book with a great small-town feel

This is a Laugh-Out-Loud book with a great small-town feel. The confrontation between Wronged Wife and Brazen Hussy Mistress in the beauty shop is classic. I look forward to seeing more from these characters. Quite a departure from Sharon Sala's mysteries and intense relationship stories, and I love this new side of her work.

In Count Your Blessings (formerly Color Me Bad) we are introduced to a group of women in Blessings, a small town in Georgia. Curl Up and Dye is the hair salon in Blessings, run by 4 women. It is a hub of activity, change, and friendship. It is in Curl Up and Dye that customer Patty finally admits to herself the direction her life is taking and the changes she's going to have to make. She's suspected her husband, the preacher, is having an affair ... and it is in Curl Up and Dye that she confronts not only this reality, but the other woman!

This sets in motion change and new beginnings for not only Patty, but many of the women in Blessings. When Patty takes charge of her life and her future, she is at first ostracized, but soon admired. But her acceptance and friendship from the ladie's in Curl Up and Dye is never changing.

Sharon Sala gives us a fast paced, witty novella with Count Your Blessings. Count Your Blessings is a novella about change, hope and new beginnings. Patty demonstrates well that you can either curl up and cry, or move on to greater adventures when your life takes an unexpected turn. Patty unexpectedly turns out to be someone others can learn from...ok, not from everything she did, but who wouldn't want to do what she did if given the opportunity?

From the blurb, I was expecting a story that carried the feel of Steel Magnolias, with the southern overlay, a hair salon being the heartbeat where worries and gossip are shared equally, with a few quirky moments from characters to enhance the story. What I got, despite the abbreviated length of this book was so much more: depth and heart and soul-searching that introduce the town and people of Blessings, Georgia as viewed through the catalyst of a simple appointment at the hair salon.

Patty June is the preacher’s wife, and in the middle of a small personal crisis, coming face to face with her husband’s mistress at the Curl Up and Dye. It doesn’t go well (hilariously so) as Patty June decides enough is enough, and takes out her frustration with her husband’s infidelity on Bobette, his mistress. Ruby (the owner), Vesta and Velma (twin hairdressers) and Mabel, the manicurist have a front row seat to the goings-on, and are first in line for the recap after the fact.

Patty June doesn’t necessarily come off well in terms of town approval after her meltdown, but the shockwaves her explosion has caused for all the men in town is hilarious. With an offhanded remark about another man’s faithlessness, and plenty of characters who behave in slightly over the top ways that are actually quite normal for a small town story, the pages flip by.

You’ll want to savor this story, laugh often and dive right into the next. The prequel to The Curl Up & Dye, you’ll want to grab that just as I did to enjoy Sala’s writing and the town of Blessings.

Wow this book really packs a lot of important info into one place! Kevin Ruse really knows his stuff and explains the concepts of Application Programming-Interface so even newbies like me can understand it. Step-by-step instructions with screen shots of the code really helped me to comprehend and be able to recreate things like Device Orientation Event API and more. Very clearly defined!
