Garrett Sutton is an attorney, best selling author and one of Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Advisors. A clear and engaging writer, Garrett demystifies legal topics and presents them in a very understandable and accessible manner.

Excellent book! Completely changed my views about businesses & corporations.

I gave it 5 stars because of the way it was written which makes it easy for new entrepreneurs to understand and apply its principles. Now I know how risky it is to start a business as a sole proprietor or in a partnership. The author convinced me that in order to protect one's wealth, it is important to create a corporation. All in all, this book is the perfect complement to Robert Kiyosaki's book, Rich Dad Poor Dad.

Wealth of information

Garrett Sutton goes through all the reasons why doing business as a person is a bad idea. If you operate under your own name, you open yourself up to liabilities which can wipe you out financially and emotionally, often through no fault of your own (except for ignorance). You also pay much more in taxes than you should have, based on higher tax rates and less options for legitimate deductions.

He then goes on to describe the different forms of entities you can form to operate under, and clearly explains the pros and cons behind each one. Some are really no different than operating under your own name. Garrett labels these 'bad entities' and steers you clear of them. The remaining 'good entities' are explained, with many examples, so you can find one that fits your particular situation. There is no 'one size fits all', as the examples will make quite clear.

Asset protection, tax benefits, estate planning, succession planning, these are all covered in enough detail to be useful, but not so much that your eyes glaze over. This book is no replacement for an attorney's advice, or a CPA's, and Garrett is also very clear on this. It will, however, give you a leg up so when you do talk to your own advisor(s), they will not need to explain every little concept to you, and if you get billed by the hour, then this book will save you many hours.

Highly recommended, and a credit to the Rich Dad Advisor series.

This is a superb book! Sutton tells us everything we need to know to get started in clear and straightforward language. Because of this book, I decided to start Empress Cindy Books LLC to publish my books on Amazon.

If you're even thinking of starting a business, this is the book to read. And once you decide to start, I highly recommend the companion book, "Run Your Own Corpoation."

About the Author
Lawrence C. Bank, PE, PhD, is Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He has over twenty years of experience in research, consulting, and education in FRP composites for construction. He is the founding editor and former editor in chief of the ASCE Journal of Composites for Construction and a Fellow of the ASCE and the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC) based in Hong Kong. He is a member of ACI Committee 440 (FRP Reinforcement) and of ASTM Committees D-20 (Plastics) and D-30 (Composite Materials). He has received the Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize, the Thomas Fitch Rowland Prize, and the Richard R. Torrens Award from ASCE for his work related to composites for construction.

Well-written informative book

I'm a mechanical engineering student who took a "Composites in Civil Engineering" course. The book was well-organized and seemed informative enough for the field. It has a decent/basic introduction to laminate-failure theories and the math/equations were easily followed. I docked a start because of a lack of answers/solutions for the questions at the ends of chapters.

Good reference book on FRP composite design for structural engineers

One of the very few reference books on FRP composites for engineers. The derivation of properties from the lamina level to the full section was always a challenge for me (most practicing engineers don't deal with this). This book helps by providing great examples. Highly recommended.

no GAAP comparison

This book, like everything else written by Steven M Bragg, offers very good insight to new IFRS standards in easy to read, plain English format.

Since this is just a guidebook, it should not be served as your sole resource for everything IFRS, but it does go over most important chapters with a lot of examples that are not complicated for casual readers.

It would have been nice if the book covered the difference of treatments between IFRS & GAAP, but there's barely any mention of GAAP at all.

(It would have been perfect to include them in the summary section of each chapter - for instance, GAAP: LIFO allowed / IFRS: Not allowed, etc)

Bottom line is, if you are interested in finding out how your GAAP treatment of Fixed Asset differs from IFRS, you'll need to do some digging since the book does not conveniently compare the differences for you.

Objectification

Provides a historical overview of "objectification" (from Hegel to Marx to Lukacs to Simmel) or what will be called "alienation" in Marxian terms. The user/ consumer is not fixed in consuming in the mode as intended by production; through an undersatnding of "objectification" the consumer begins to engage in a process whereby consumption produces an alt-identity that has the potential to escape the hegemony of dominant systems. With the introduction of this perspective the (general) negativity towards capitalist modes of production and consumption is subverted. In a weird way the supposed determinist track of "objectification" in this book subverts itself by proclaiming its own provisional status.
The next thing to read from this text will be Spivak and Bhabha.
Miller talks about the person as 'being-with-the-world', hence refusing the separation drawn between self and world and nature.
The only thing that concerns me is that it might be only through alienation/ or negative dialectics that objectification and hence a more rounded understanding of self and world that consist the 'being-with-the-world' can be achieved, which does not differ too much from Adorno's "elitism".

**Description**
This is an update of the 2010 first edition of the The Washington Manual of Outpatient Internal Medicine. This and other manuals from Washington University continue to be the go-to pocket references for housestaff in residency training programs.

**Purpose**
The stated purpose is to provide a reference on the common ambulatory medical problems encountered in the outpatient office as well as a companion to The Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics, 34th edition, Godara et al. (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2014).

**Audience**
Although the focus remains on the needs of the medicine housestaff of Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, this is a helpful pocket reference for all who practice outpatient medicine, including general internal medicine specialists or subspecialists. While not positioned as such, it is also a mine of essential information for family medicine physicians and physician assistants. Additionally, it is a tremendous reference source for subspecialists, as it incorporates many details that they would not have the opportunity to stay on top of.

**Features**
Very much like its predecessor, this is an easy-to-use, pocket-sized manual for house officers. The chapters are divided according to the usual organ systems. Each chapter has sections on the general principles of relevant anatomy and physiology, how to make the diagnosis, how to treat, and what follow-up is appropriate. There are simple figures and tables of relevant comparisons, along with a superb index.

**Assessment**
This is an excellent book for housestaff and attendings who practice in the outpatient setting. I recommend it highly to all. It is exceptionally easy to carry, use, and find information with minimal effort. The Inkling version is extremely handy and easy to use.

My collaborative MD thought this book would be an excellent resource. He has 20years of ER and Internal medicine experience. This book did not let me down. It's well organized and easy to read. It will remain a part of my resource library for many years to come!

Another valuable edition

As a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine, and a specialist in internal medicine and geriatrics, I have found the Wash U manuals to be incredibly helpful and reliable. This edition, although dedicated to outpatient medical care, is another link in a long and proud tradition. Inpatient care is less frequent, so physicians are treating patients with much more severe illness in the outpatient setting. New medications, imaging and lab tests make outpatient care much more complicated and this reference much more valuable.

Fascinating Insights

The author does a terrific job describing the value of early exits to investment returns and improving the odds of a successful liquidity event.

His insight that you should secure alignment from the very beginning on your exit strategy among the founders and early investors is invaluable. As he points out, most boards and management teams miss the opportunity to secure their maximum valuation because they are too focused on their day to day efforts, do not think to sell until business growth falters and do not appreciate how long the sale process can take.

Most startling was his description of the inherent conflicts of interest between VC investors vs entrepreneurs and angel investors. It is perfectly obvious once he explains the underlying business models but it was a new distinction for me.

The research done on the outcomes of companies that take VC funds is also interesting. For example, VC investments increase the likelihood of firm failure as the VC investment model requires them to block profitable early sales in order to compel a try for the much less likely 30x multiples. They also bring a likely delay of 10 years or more to the exit.

The book is well organized and written by a subject matter expert whose industry presentations posted to YouTube are well worth your time. I highly recommend this book for any founders or angel investors looking to improve the odds of a successful exit for their effort and risk.

This book makes a great rational case for smaller

This is a tremendous book that provides a clear insight into a strategy that more (technology) entrepreneurs should adopt. Not every business needs to be "venture fundable". Venture funding has it's own downsides, notably the divergence of the entrepreneurs interests and those of the VC investor. This book makes a great rational case for smaller, more "exit-able" businesses.
