Hermine, geborene Prinzessin Reuß ä.L., ist von ihren Zeitgenossen häufig nicht sehr positiv beurteilt worden; daran mögen ihre Lebenstüchtigkeit und ihr daraus resultierendes Selbstbewußtsein nicht ganz unschuldig sein, andererseits auch ihr leidenschaftliches Temperament, welches sich bis hin zu Wutausbrüchen steigern konnte. In den Tagebüchern Sigurds von Ilsemann, aber auch in anderen Veröffentlichungen aus dem Umkreis von Haus Doorn finden sich immer wieder Belege für diese Unbeherrschtheit, die so ganz im Widerspruch stand zu der sonst und nach außen hin von der Autorin betont gepflegten und geforderten Förmlichkeit. Bei der Lektüre ihrer Ausführungen läßt sich erkennen, daß sie eine außergewöhnlich gebildete und vielseitig interessierte Frau war, die durchaus ihre - von ihrer Position als Mitglied einer alten Familie regierender Fürsten geprägte - eigene Meinung zu den Ereignissen ihrer Zeit hatte und diese auch vehement vertrat.

Excellent Book, Highly Recommended

This book covers a broad range of contemporary financial markets in less than 400 pages. The author states upfront that he has taught courses on this subject for years, and it really shows. His explanations are crystal clear, and the markets are presented in a very logical order and from a global prespective. In addition, the text is filled with many examples and case studies that really aid in understanding. There are plenty of formulas in this book, but the level of mathematical sophisticiation never goes beyond algbra.

Downsides? A bit dated and -- for the American reader -- written in British English with many of the examples in sterling. Personally, I felt this gave the book a more global flavor (or flavour) which seemed fitting given the topic.

A last note, Amazon has the page count wrong. Even with glossary, this book is less than 450 pages.

Strongly recommended for anyone interested in global finance either with an eye towards trading financial instruments or just to better understanded the complicated underpinnings of the modern global financial system.

One of the best introductions to this subject

This book is one of the best introductions to an area that grows in complexity.
It explains the various types of equities and how they are used. It covers the mathematical aspect of equities that even a non-mathematician would find absorbing, although and I hate to say this, mathematical purists would not find it rigourous enough.
This book goes a long way to demystifying an increasingly important part of world finance.
A good read for both investors and laymen alike.

This is an excellent comprehensive introduction to capital markets. It is very clearly written with a lot of practical examples and case studies. I particularly like the fact that the book covers a wide range of debt and equity cash and derivative products. It is less mathematical than a book like Hull and a very good complement to it.

About the Author
Nikola Tesla (1856–1943) was an inventor, mechanical engineer, and electrical engineer. He was an important contributor to the birth of commercial electricity, and is best known for his many revolutionary developments in the field of electromagnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tesla's patents and theoretical work formed the basis of modern alternating current (AC) electric power systems, including the polyphase system of electrical distribution and the AC motor. Because of his eccentric personality and his seemingly unbelievable and sometimes bizarre claims about possible scientific and technological developments, Tesla was ultimately ostracized and regarded as a mad scientist by many late in his life. Tesla died with little money at the age of 86 in a hotel suite in New York City. The SI unit measuring magnetic field B (also referred to as the magnetic flux density and magnetic induction), the tesla, was named in his honor (at the CGPM, Paris, 1960).

A mixed blessing - Fabulous Read - Poor Print

This is a very badly reproduced reprint of the article written by Tesla from Century Magazine. The entire document looks like a cheap photocopy and the contrast of the photographs makes them useless as a reference. The booklet contains ~38 pages of Tesla's musings which show him a man ahead of his time in 1900. The rest of the book (over 1/2) is a collection of "Mystical Drawings" also badly reproduced. Kessinger Publishing spared all expense in throwing this document together and did not give this visionary, his philosophies, nor his predictions the deserved treatments.

Due to the poor quality of the text and photos, I give it a 1 but the author a 5+!

Solving a Problem With No Easy Solution

This book offers a great insight into the mind of one of the geniuses of all time. Tesla converts how we reach enlightenment (increasing human energy) into a mathematical equation and shows how we can achieve that end.

He discusses how to end war, or the wasteful use of human energy, a negative force, to how to obtain positive energy cheaply, to energy transmission throughout the planet. Like most of the ancient philosophers, he was both a man of science and a man of religion and spiritualism.

The only downside to the book is that he refers to drawings of some of his experiments, but there are none in the book. It would have been nice to see these, no matter what the quality.

It is short, 80 pages, and an easy, worthwhile read.

Tesla the unsung hero

As I learn more about Tesla, I have come to realize that Edison and his supporters have done this genious a great wrong. Much of our electric comforts and wonders are founded in the aspiration of Tesla, not Edison. This book will provide insight to the depth of the man, but it alone can not encompass Tesla's true genious. I would recommend reading some background info on Tesla prior to develing into this work.
