About the Author
Julia Cook was born and raised in Salt Lake City Utah. While living in Utah, she became actively involved in teaching children how to ski. That experience led to a love of teaching in general. Julia now lives in Fremont, Nebraska and has a Masters degree in Elementary School Counseling. While serving as a guidance counselor, she often used childrens books to enhance her classroom lessons. Julia is now a nationally recognized award-winning childrens book author who has written more than a dozen books on behavior and health for children as well as several activity books for teachers. Her light, humorous approach keeps kids laughing while they're learning good behavior skills. The goal behind all of Julias books and efforts is to actively involve people into her fun and creative stories and teach them to become life-long problem solvers. Good topic, less than great message

As an elementary school counselor, I use several of Julia Cook's books for classroom guidance lessons and with individual students and they are mostly great! This one, however, isn't going to make the cut because most of the solutions offered to the anxious main character are unrealistic or place the responsibility on adults. There are better books out there to help kids with worries and anxiety.

The Perfect Book to Help Kids Handle Their Worries

Author Julia Cook, has an incredible gift of writing books for children! Her books teach important life skills, and are written through the child's view of the world. As an Elementary School Counselor I have incorporated many of Julia's books into my curriculum and must say Wilma Jean has been a hit with all my students k-5, parents, and staff!!! It's a FUN interactive book that teaches and gives children tools to handle their worries!
Children will quickly learn through Wilma Jean that the only thing they can't control is weather, for all of their other worries there is usually a solution.
Wilma Jean the Worry Machine should certainly find it's way onto your bookshelf if you're a Parent, School Counselor, Teacher, Social Worker, Psychologist, and/or Pediatrician.

I purchased this book for my son because of good reviews I had seen on it somewhere else, and since I am a worrier, and would prefer for my son not to be, I thought it would be a good choice for us. I was very disappointed when we read it. We actually only read it once before I decided to give it away. I felt like it basically gives you suggestions of all of the things you could be worrying about and would have made me more stressed out as a kid - not what I was going for at all...

I LOVE THIS BOOK

I LOVE THIS BOOK! The hat designs are fun and imaginative, the illustrations are colorful, vivid, and helpful, and, as a "newbie" crochet-ist, I am finding the instructions clear and unambiguous. I have to admit I haven't finished any yet, but I have started on Turtle because it looks to be one of the simpler ones, and I am looking forward to having him keep my head warm this winter!

These are adorable hats that have easy to follow directions to make in 3 sizes. You can also choose which ear flap design you prefer: plain ear flap, ear flap with scarf or ear flap with a twisted cord tie. I love the choices: cat, dog, octopus, rhino, flamingo, turtle, lion, owl, tiger, penguin, shark, bald eagle, ladybug, snow leopard, rabbit, frog, mallard, sheep, bee and bear. Best crochet book I have seen. Lots of pictures so you can see as you go how you are doing.

About the Author
James Briscione is a chef, author, TV personality, and culinary instructor. He started his culinary career working for Frank Stitt in Birmingham, and at age 24 became the Chef de Cuisine at Stitt's flagship restaurant, Highlands Bar and Grill. James moved to New York, where he worked at the renowned Restaurant Daniel and was the winner of the first season of Food Network's Chopped and the Chopped Champions series. He's the co-author of Just Married & Cooking and is the Director of Culinary Development at the Institute for Culinary Education.

I've already cooked my way through almost half the book and I'm in love with every bit of it

The recipes, the design & photography, Chef James' chef tips & tricks! I've already cooked my way through almost half the book and I'm in love with every bit of it. The "at-home" cooking lesson feel is different (and brilliant) and I can't get enough of the step-by-step photos. A few cherry-picked favorites so far: Spicy Thai-Coconut Chicken Soup, Bananas Foster Banana Bread, Buttermilk Biscuits and the Salted Caramel Brownies. I'm making myself hungry!

Buy this book if you love gorgeous design and solid recipes! My only question- Why isn't the handsome chef's face on any of the pages??

Photos, photos, photos! If you like pictures that show you the ingredients you'll need as well as pictures of the finished dish, you will love this cookbook!

College students should have this cookbook! How do you roast a chicken? How do you grill fish? It's in here and the directions are explicit and easy to follow.

These cooking lessons are designed to turn the novice cook into a competent chef. If you're already a competent chef, variations on the lessons and some of the techniques might interest you.

Each "Today's Lesson Master Lesson" is preceded by a double-page spread photo of your "mise en place," or your "set up:" the ingredients you'll be needing for that recipe.

All of the classic recipes are here, including chicken stock, chili, meat loaf, coq au vin, pork medallions, lamb chops, steamed mussels, sauteed shrimp, salads and vegetables, mac and cheese, muffins, banana bread, brownies, pies, cakes, souffles and many more.

Tips and techniques include: how to hold a knife, how to chop garlic, how to chop an onion, essential kitchen tools, pantry staples, basic techniques and more.

I've never seen a cookbook with so many photos, and clear ones at that. I recommend a heavy duty plexiglass book holder because this is a thick, heavy book. At $23, this one is a steal!

Much better then the last Scarpetta novel

Finally a Scarpetta novel that delves more into the familiar forensic crime stories I have come to love. Not a slow paced plodder like Depraved Heart. There is family bickering, but not as dark as the last few novels. Kaye's arch enemy Carrie Grethen is back and even more depraved then ever. I will not spoil the story for anyone, but there is a surprising twist at the very end. A whole new storyline has been opened up for future novels. Great read.

Not the least bit satisfying

I rated this book a 2 because for me at least it is not the good follow-up to the last book it could have been and that when I finished it I felt like I had wasted my time in reading it. Cornwell's books are generally captivating and advance the bigger story much further than this one did. I kept waiting for this book to start but all it seemed to have was a big beginning, a short ending and nothing much in between.

The book is mostly about one day and goes into a lot of detail on setting up tents to house the crime scene that began the book. Once you wade through that you find you have read 70% of the book and it feels like it is still just starting. The last bit of the book is about Carrie Greiten and what she is currently doing to threaten the life's of Kay Scarpetta and those dear to her. The one good scene in the book is Kay disabling Carrie's latest weapon with a fishing pole and monofilament line. Unfortunately we don't get to read about the capture of Carrie as Kay is knocked unconscious. We only hear about bits and pieces of it from Kay's reflections on what she was told. Carrie is not killed so I suppose we will hear about more of her insane machinations in future books, although it is long past time for Carrie to make a permanent departure from the story. Cornwell would do well to return to some of her earlier books and try to write another one with the same vim and vigor those contained. Those were enjoyable and riveting. This book,however, is a sad example of her talent as a storyteller.

I had looked forward to this book since reading the last one but it disappointed me and left me wondering if it wasn't time to bid Scarpetta adieu.

Save your money and read something else

Worst Patricia Cornwell book yet. Pages and pages of the same dialogue and storyline repeated over and over. If I had to hear about sweat soaked clothes and wet slimy shoes one more time I'd have screamed. Scarpetta is shown in the worst ways in this book - self-absorbed, know-it-all, and wavers from self-doubt to over-confidence. This book is all over the place and just drags on and on. We are treated to pages and pages of useless telling of setting up a perimeter and tent over the crime scene. We are treated to the same things repeated over and over, chapter to chapter. I'm 72% into the book and the only reason I'm that far and will finish it is because I don't have the option to return it for refund because I waited too long to start reading it. The book is BORING and just keeps rehashing itself time and again. Boring, unimaginative, weak plot, another woe is me I'm being pursued angle. Time for you to stop writing Patricia Cornwell, you've lost your touch. I will never purchase another of your books.
